Mountaineers Defeat Temple to Close Out Opening Weekend

RICHMOND, Va. – The App State tennis team defeated Temple in the team's second match of the season 4-1.  Sophomore Naledi Manyube swept her opponent without giving up a single game to clinch the Mountaineer win.
 
What Happened
Like yesterday's matchup against VCU, the Mountaineers opened with a quick lead against Temple by winning two doubles matches, earning the doubles point. The duo of Isabela Romanichen and Taya Powell did not drop a single game all weekend, sweeping Temple 6-0 in their matchup. Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey only dropped a single game against the Owls, clinching the doubles point winning 6-1.
 
In singles, Dada-Mascoll stays undefeated by only giving up a game per set, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-1.
 
The Mountaineers took a 3-1 lead with singles wins from Dada-Mascoll and Powell, with the only setback coming from Martyna Mackiewicz of Temple.  
 
Manyube gave the Mountaineers their fourth point of the match, giving the Mountaineers their second win in Richmond, Va.  The Mountaineers finished undefeated in their opening weekend, giving up only three total points in two matches.
 
Up Next
The Mountaineers will travel to Greenville, S.C. to take on Furman on Jan. 26. Play is expected to begin at 11 a.m.
