BOONE, N.C. — Ellie Garrison's first-half strike proved to be the difference as App State capped its regular season with a 1-0 victory over Georgia Southern on Wednesday night at The Valley.
Garrison netted her fifth goal of the season in the 33rd minute, finishing off a pass from
Reagan Sturgill to give the Mountaineers a lead they would not relinquish.
With the win, App State finished the season 7-7-3 overall and 3-4-3 in Sun Belt play, marking its third straight seven-win season for the first time since 2014-16.
The Mountaineers controlled possession throughout, outshooting the Eagles 11-9 on goal attempts and earning a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. Despite a late surge from Georgia Southern, goalkeeper
Hanna Skogsfors stood tall, matching her career high of six saves en route to the Mountaineers fourth shutout of the season.
Garrison paced the App State attack with three shots, all on frame, while Sturgill and
Shannon Studer each added a shot on goal.
Hayden Petrick,
Lucy Harrington and
Maddie Williams all played 90 minutes in the contest.
