App State Tennis Rolls Past Southern Miss 4-1

BOONE, N.C. – The App State tennis team bounced back with a dominating 4-1 victory over Southern Miss.
 
What Happened
The Mountaineers (8-5, 2-2 SBC) got off to a strong start, clinching the doubles point by dropping only three games in total. Ruby Broadbent and Taya Powell led the charge with a 6-1 win in the first match. Alexi Cleveland and Savannah Dada-Mascoll followed closely with a dominant 6-2 victory from the No. 3 spot. Naledi Manyube and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey were tied at 3-all before clinching their match, giving App State a 1-0 lead over the Golden Eagles (4-7, 0-4 SBC) heading into singles play.
 
Dada-Mascoll kept the momentum going with a commanding straight-set win, 6-1, 6-2, from the No. 1 position. This victory brings her record to 9-2 in singles this season.
 
Manyube continued her impressive run with a 6-3, 7-5 victory from the No. 2 spot, marking her seventh straight win. This victory improves her singles record to 9-1 on the season.
 
Although Powell fell in her match from the No. 3 position, Broadbent sealed the Mountaineers' win with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph from the No. 6 spot, giving App State its fourth point and second conference win of the season.
 
Up Next
The Mountaineers will hit the road to face Marshall on Saturday. The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. in Huntington, W.Va.
