App State Tennis Rolls Past Gardner-Webb for Sixth Straight Win

BOONE, N.C. – The App State tennis team extended its winning streak to six with a commanding 4-1 victory over Gardner-Webb.
 
What Happened
The Mountaineers (13-5, 5-2 SBC) started strong by clinching the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Taya Powell set the tone with a 6-3 victory on court one. Shortly after, Alexi Cleveland and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey secured the point over the Runnin' Bulldogs (6-9, 2-2 Big South), giving App State an early lead heading into singles play.
 
Dada-Mascoll continued her dominant form in singles, securing a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set victory. Her singles record improves to 13-2, all from the No. 1 spot, along with a 10-3 doubles record primarily on courts one and two.
 
Naledi Manyube brought the Mountaineers within one match of victory, winning a hard-fought 7-6, 6-0 match. She overcame a 4-1 deficit in the first-set tiebreaker, rallying to win five straight points and take the set 7-4 before cruising in the second.
 
After a loss on court three, Ryan-Bovey clinched the overall win for the Mountaineers in a three-set battle, dominating the final set without dropping a game. She extends her singles win streak to five, improving to 7-5, with a doubles record of 11-6.
 
The matches of Ruby Broadbent and Cleveland were left unfinished due to the match being clinched, with both players leading by one set.
 
Up Next
The Mountaineers remain in the High Country for their next three matches, beginning with Coastal Carolina. Play is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
