WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After matching its best start to the season in program history, App State Soccer suffered its first setback of 2025 on Sunday, falling 2-0 on the road to William & Mary.
The Tribe (1-2-1) broke a scoreless tie in the 54th minute when Ivey Crain was able to outrun the App State defense and evade a charging
Anna Claire Jacobi who came off her line trying to foil the scoring chance.
The home team added a goal in the 76th minute when Lindsay Wilson delivered a pinpoint shot into the top-left corner of the goal.
App State (3-1-0) was held scoreless for the first time this season despite registering 10 shots and five shots on target led by
Ellie Garrison who put all three of her attempts on net.
Izzi Wood also got off three shots in the match, giving her 230 shots in her career, the second-most by a Mountaineer in program history.
It also marked the first time this season that the Mountaineers allowed a goal in the run of play. The only two goals that App State allowed in its first three games came on penalty kicks.
App State will have the week off before returning to action on Sunday, Aug. 30, when the team visits Clemson. The Tigers are 1-1-1 on the season and next play Thursday against South Carolina in the annual Palmetto Series. Sunday's match will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
