BOONE, N.C. - The App State men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Charlottesville, Va. to compete at the Virginia Invitational on Friday. The men's 8K is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. with the women's 5K to follow at 9:30 a.m. The meet serves as a preview of the regional course, as the NCAA Southeast Regional will be hosted by Virginia on Nov. 14.
Friday's field of competition will include App State, George Washington, Howard, Johns Hopkins, Mary Washington, Norfolk State, Richmond, Virginia, Western Carolina, William & Mary.

The Mountaineers opened the 2025 campaign in Boone with the Covered Bridge Open on Aug. 29. In the men's 6K race, sophomore
Thomas Wlazlowski was the first Mountaineer to cross the finish line with a personal best time of 18:09.7. Wlazlowski finished seventh overall and was followed by senior Ethan Liphman, who placed eighth (18:36.9) and freshman
Tate Shore, who took ninth (18:31.0). Sophomore
Rowan Gwin and redshirt senior
Chase Burrell rounded out the top 15 for the Black and Gold. In the team standings, the men placed second with 47 points, following Georgia, who scored 15 points.

Breanna Budzinski set pace for the Mountaineers in the women's race, clocking a 5K personal best of 17:52.6 to finish 13th overall. Budzinski earned week one Sun Belt Runner of the Week honors for her performance. Freshmen
Josie Jackson and
Ashby Williams finished 16th (18:05.8, PR) and 17th (18:07.5, PR), respectively. Sophomore
Savannah Moore stopped the clock at 18:27.5 to finish 26th. The women's squad finished third in the team standings with 82 points, following South Carolina (18 points) and Georgia (47 points).
