PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. — App State Women's Golf packed a lot of history into its fall debut.
The Mountaineers posted three of the six best team rounds in program history over 54 holes at the GolfWeek Fall Challenge while recording two individual rounds in the 60s, three under-par rounds and five rounds of par or better on the par-71 layout.
App State placed 10th in a deep 20-team field, three strokes behind sixth place.
Salem Lee and true freshman
Zoe Duval tied for 21st with 4-over totals Tuesday, and
Ona Lukes tied for 35th at 6 over.
The Mountaineers had four individual rounds in the 60s in their history before Sunday's opening round, and they added two more through the first 36 holes of the tournament. The team total of 290-292-291—873 (21 over) was 13 shots lower than the previous school record for 54 holes (22-over totals of 886 occurred at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational in 2011-12 and the Sun Belt Championship in 2016-17).
App State golfers have now broken 220 over a 54-hole tournament 10 times, and three of those happened in Pawleys Island: Lee (217), Duval (217) and Lukes (219).
Lukes began the event with five birdies in a round of 67 to set a school record for the lowest 18-hole score (the previous low of 69 had been carded four times) and for the lowest round vs. par (the previous best of 3 under had been accomplished three times). That highlighted a four-player team score of 290, the third-best team round in program history.
Lee led the team in Monday's second-round with a career-best 69 that included five birdies, and Duval also went under par with a 70. Lukes and Duval shot even-par 71s during Tuesday's final round.
Lee and Lukes are the lone returners on a seven-player roster with five newcomers.
Maria Pinedo opened the tournament with a 73 and finished at 12 over through 54 holes, while true freshman
Addi Ritter had a second-round 76 during a debut that also included a 78.
Charlotte won the event at 7 under, the only under-par team total, while Boise State's Leia Chung was the medalist at 14 under.
The 2025-26 season is presented by Hound Ears Club. App State resumes play Sept. 15 at the Elon Invitational.
