BOONE, N.C. – The App State tennis team defeated UNC Asheville 7-0 on Friday, marking its first win of the spring season.
It was a match of firsts for the Mountaineers, as a sweep of all three doubles matches gave all six players their first doubles victories of the season.

Naledi Manyube,
Ruby Broadbent and
Sreenidhi Balaji each picked up their first singles wins of the season. For Balaji, the straight-set victory marked the first of her collegiate career.
How it Happened
The Mountaineers set the tone from the beginning, securing the doubles point for an early lead. The duo of
Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Powell took the first win on Court 1, 6-2. Broadbent and
Allegra Hodson followed, rallying from a 2-3 deficit to triumph 6-3 on Court 3 and clinch the doubles point. Playing the matches to completion, the pair of Balaji and Manyube secured a win to finish the sweep.
Entering singles play with a one-point advantage, the Mountaineers maintained their momentum. Manyube finished first on Court 3 to extend the App State lead to 2-0, while Dada-Mascoll completed her match in straight sets shortly after, winning 6-4, 6-2 for her second victory of the year. Powell then clinched the match for App State, earning a 6-3, 6-3 victory to secure the decisive fourth point.
With the overall win guaranteed, Balaji kept up the pressure to earn a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6. Broadbent kept the energy rolling at No. 5, extending the App State lead to 6-0 with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory. Shortly after, Hodson closed out the afternoon with her second singles victory of the season, taking a 10-7 tiebreaker to complete the shutout.
