HIGH POINT, N.C. / CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The App State men's and women's track and field teams took part in multiple meets this weekend, the 49er Classic and the Bob Davidson Team Challenge. They combined for six top-three finishes, and 15 total top 10 finishes on the weekend.
49er Classic
Miller Brannan moved into fifth all-time in school history in the decathlon with a score of 6104, including a first-place finish in the 1500m with a time of 4:48.26, and a first-place finish in the 400m with a time of 49.27, a new personal best.
The Mountaineers dominated the men's 1500m with a second-place finish from Ethan Lipham with a time of 3:49.61, an eighth-place finish by Aidan Kneeland with a time of 3:52.76, and a tenth-place finish from Derek Waite with a time of 3:53.22.
In the men's 5000m invite, Thomas Ashley placed second with a time of 14:21.39. In the women's 5000m open, Kate Johnson took home fourth place with a time of 18:18.00, and Rhys Ammon took home fifth with a new personal best time of 18:24.59. Bre Budzinski placed seventh in the women's 5000m invite, setting a new personal best time of 17:31.53.
Bob Davidson Team Challenge
Chris Stewart had a strong weekend, earning third place in the men's shot put with a new personal best throw of 17.41m/ 57-1.5 He earned fifth place in the discus with a throw of 49.7m/ 163-1, and he set a personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.18m/ 158-1.
The Mountaineers placed first and second in the women's triple jump. Ashlynn Wimberly took home first place with a jump of 12.64m/ 41-5.75, and Alana Braxton took home second with a new personal best jump of 12.2m/ 40-.5.
In the men's 100m, Dezmone Starks set a new personal best with a time of 10.67, placing fourth. In the women's 200m, Damyja Alejandro-Ortiz placed fifth with a time of 24.33. Jayla Adams finished fifth in the women's 400m with a time of 54.93.
