Brittney Whiteside

Brittney Whiteside began her second stint at App State as the athletics department's Chief Strategy Officer in May 2025.
  
Whiteside serves as a member of the executive leadership team, overseeing the department’s long-term planning and positioning in the rapidly evolving collegiate athletics landscape. She leads App State’s student-athlete NIL and revenue sharing operations. She also develops key strategies for the growth and continued success of App State Athletics.
 
In her new role, Whiteside draws from her extensive experience, which includes three years as an administrator at the University of Virginia as well as more than two years as an executive with Altius Sports Partners.
  
As Vice President at Altius Sports Partners, Whiteside spearheaded the launch of the company’s General Manager Program and led its business development efforts. Altius Sports Partners is a premier strategic advisory firm supporting more than 40 college athletics departments and brands with comprehensive solutions in NIL strategy, education, operations and brand development.
 
Whiteside was hired as an executive associate athletics director at UVa in 2019 and promoted to deputy athletics director in 2021. She oversaw the Cavaliers’ external operations, Title IX and gender equity areas, while supervising several sports.
 
She previously served as an administrator at App State from 2015-19. By the end of her first stint, she was a senior associate athletics director and SWA with oversight of the external operations units of marketing, ticketing, licensing and sponsorships, as well as the student-athlete support areas of student-athlete leadership and development. She was the supervisor for several sports.
 
During her first App State tenure, she also provided oversight to the student-athlete support areas of sports medicine and strength and conditioning. She created the Mountaineer R.I.S.E program, which is a comprehensive life skills and leadership development program that aims to develop, support and prepare student-athletes for life after athletics. She was instrumental in implementing a comprehensive care model for student-athlete health and well-being by hiring the department’s first sports dietitian, mental performance coach and sports psychologist, while transitioning the department to a medical model of care.
 
Early in her athletics administration career, Whiteside gained experience as a director of external engagement at Missouri (2014-15) and a special assistant to the athletics director at her alma mater, Wright State (2012-14).
 
Whiteside was a women’s basketball student-athlete at Wright State from 2003-07. She was a four-time Horizon League all-conference and all-defensive team performer and finished her career ranked second on the Raiders’ all-time scoring list. She went on to play professionally in Germany before returning to the United States to begin her career in athletics administration.

Whiteside graduated with a B.S. in psychology in 2007. She went on to earn a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Wright State in 2012.
 
She currently serves on Wright State University’s Board of Trustees.
