CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The App State tennis team was defeated by Charlotte, 4-0 on Friday.
What Happened
App State got off to a challenging start, losing the doubles point to the 49ers. The pairs of
Naledi Manyube/
Olwyn Ryan-Bovey and
Ruby Broadbent/
Taya Powell each dropped their matches 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. The duo of
Savannah Dada-Mascoll/
Isabela Romanichen was tied 5-5 with their opponents before the match was halted early after Charlotte clinched the doubles point.
Dada-Mascoll, still undefeated in singles from the No. 1 spot, saw her match cut short as Charlotte reached the four-point mark before she could finish.
Romanichen faced her first singles loss of the season at the No. 2 position, falling 6-4, 6-2 in a hard-fought battle.
With losses from
Olwyn Ryan-Bovey and
Alexi Cleveland, the 49ers secured their fourth point, which led to the early conclusion of the remaining matches for Dada-Mascoll, Manyube, and Powell.
