BOONE, N.C. — Behind an overtime goal from
Sarah Callery, the App State field hockey team defeated Towson 1-0 to open the 2026 season.
Kassie Paul assisted on the game-winner, feeding Callery inside the shooting circle to seal the victory.
The victory marks App State's fifth consecutive season-opening win, all coming against Towson. Head coach
Emily Dinsmore improves to 4-0 against Towson (0-1) and remains undefeated in season openers during her tenure.
Dakota Anderson recorded a shutout in her first career start, stopping four shots in the contest.
How It Happened
1st: Both teams traded early possession, but Towson recorded the only shot of the period.
2nd: The Mountaineers (1-0) applied pressure, and despite a Towson penalty corner, the Tigers were unable to score, sending the game to halftime in a 0-0 draw.
3rd: Towson generated two shots, forcing one save from Anderson, as the game remained scoreless heading into the fourth.
4th/OT: The Mountaineers defended four Towson penalty corners late in regulation to keep the Tigers off the board. App State dominated the extra period, earning two penalty corners and forcing three saves. On their eighth shot of the period, Paul found Callery inside the circle for the game-winner.
